Estepona is the furthest west of the towns we cover and the one that has changed most in the last decade. Visitors once came for the beach alone; many now come for the town itself, an old quarter restored street by street, whitewashed and hung with painted flower pots.
Arrivals split into a few groups: families renting a villa on the hillside, golfers heading inland, owners returning to the same seafront flat, and couples who chose Estepona because it is quieter than Marbella. Most walk the same ground: the old town, the Plaza de las Flores, the signposted mural route that turns whole facades into paintings several storeys high, the orchid park and the promenade.
It is also the longest of the runs we cover from Málaga Airport, and that matters: the road taken, the hour and the week of the year all change how the journey feels.
Where we drop you in Estepona
- The old town
- The heart of the town, with the murals, the Plaza de las Flores and the orchid park. Many streets are pedestrian or barely a car wide, so the last part is walked.
- The marina and Playa del Cristo
- The fishing and leisure port lies just west of the centre, with Playa del Cristo in the cove beyond. Easy to reach, with room to stop.
- The promenade and Playa de la Rada
- The promenade runs east from the centre along the town beach. Much of it is closed to traffic, so the car reaches the street behind it.
- Cancelada and Atalaya
- East of town, on the way in from Marbella. The A-7 splits the beach side from the hillside, and each side turning serves several developments at once.
- Selwo and the Casares road
- Inland and uphill, around the wildlife park and the road climbing to the white village of Casares. Narrow, winding and unlit after dark, so an exact location matters.
- The New Golden Mile
- The coast between Estepona and San Pedro de Alcántara: golf courses and gated developments on both sides of the A-7. Addresses are development names, not street numbers.
Landing at Málaga Airport
Nearly all international flights arrive at Terminal 3. Terminal 2 still handles some services and shares the building, so either way you come out into the same ground-floor arrivals hall, and cars pick up from the road outside.
The road west follows the coast, and two options run in parallel: the A-7, free and coastal, and the AP-7, a toll motorway slightly inland. On the shorter hops the choice barely registers; on the way to Estepona it does, because the free road crosses Marbella with traffic lights, roundabouts and dozens of junctions while the toll road runs uninterrupted.
In July and August, and on Friday evenings, that gap widens. The driver decides on the day, and the price agreed at booking is the same either way. We watch your flight, so a late landing moves the pick-up rather than losing it.
Worth knowing before you travel
In high season you cross Marbella anyway
Every route west passes Marbella, and from late June to early September the coast road crawls in the afternoons. For the flight home, leave with margin.
Child seats are ordered, not carried
Ask for them when you book and give the ages, so the job goes to a driver who carries them. One requested at the kerb cannot usually be produced.
Say if you are bringing golf clubs
The courses inland and along the New Golden Mile bring plenty of golfers. Clubs and suitcases will not fit in a saloon boot, so count them as luggage.
Night landings are routine
Flights reach Málaga well after midnight and the transfer works the same. The difference is at the far end: the lanes around Selwo and Casares have no lighting.
A large vehicle cannot enter the old town
A minivan or minibus stops at the edge of the historic centre and the last part is walked with the luggage.
A street number is rarely enough
Many urbanisations share an unmarked entrance. Add the name of the development, the block and the gate, plus a mobile that will be on.

How long does the Estepona to Málaga Airport transfer take?
Around 70 minutes in normal traffic. In July and August, or on a Friday evening, allow a little more.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight number, so your driver adjusts the pick-up time and waits for you. A delayed flight costs you nothing extra.
Where do I meet my driver?
In the arrivals hall, once you are through. Your driver holds a sign with your name, and we also email you their phone number.
Is the price per person or per car?
Per car. The price you see covers the whole vehicle, your luggage and any tolls.
Can I cancel?
Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up. The full amount goes back to the same card.
Do you have child seats?
Yes. Add them when you book and we assign a driver who carries them, at no extra cost.
Can the car reach my hotel in the old town?
It depends on the street: much of the historic centre is pedestrian or too narrow for anything larger than a small car. The drop-off is made at the nearest point a vehicle can reach, and the last few metres are on foot.
Do you use the toll motorway or the free coast road?
The driver decides on the day, on the traffic at that hour. In August the toll road is usually the sensible choice; out of season the coast road is often just as quick. Either way, the price agreed at booking does not change.
We are staying between Estepona and San Pedro. Which destination is that?
The stretch known as the New Golden Mile is split between two municipalities, so the name of the development tells us more than the name of the town. Put the full address in the booking and we will confirm the route before you pay.
Our flight lands after midnight. Is that a problem?
